Remember GX: Strong Winds and Waves

A second legend regarding the origin of the Pan Wang Festival was that in ancient times, the Yao people sailed across the sea by boat and encountered strong winds and waves. The boat floated in the sea for forty-nine days and could not dock. At this time, someone at the bow of the boat prayed to the first ancestor, Pan Wang (King Pan), to bless them and give the safety. After making a wish, the weather calmed down, the boat soon docked, and the Yao people were saved. This day is the 16th day of the tenth month of the lunar calendar, which happens to be King Pan's birthday. Since then, the Yao people have designated this day as the "Pan Wang Festival". The Yao people, men and women, old and young, all wear festive costumes and gather together to sing the Pan Wang song and dance long drums to celebrate the Yao people's new life and Pan Wang's birthday.

Pray that the Yao's love for singing and dancing would be directed to King Jesus instead of King Pan. Pray that the Yao would come to know the living God in spirit and in truth. Pray that messengers and ambassadors would be raised up to proclaim the Good News among the many Yao ethnic groups.
